While walking through any department store in any town, you will find yourself surrounded by white socks – often at a lot lower price than their bold, patterned counterpart. Being surrounded by this type of sock may lead anyone to believe that these are the most commonly used sock, or at least, the sock that you should be wearing more often than not. However, that is not exactly the case. Making sure that you are wearing the right sock for the right occasion is key to any attire, so here is a breakdown of when you should rock a pair of white socks.
If you are slipping on sneakers to shoot some hoops, lift some weights, or do any kind of athletics, you can rest assured that white socks are a good option. Whether you decide to go with ankle socks, crew cut, or mid-calf socks, white is a fine choice for sporting activities of any kind.
When you are sitting at home wearing your most comfortable outfit, white socks are a great option for completing the comfortable look. Heck, if you’re preparing for snacks and binge-watching shows, you do not even need matching socks!
While it may sound counter-intuitive, white ankle socks can go with argyle attire when worn properly. Make sure that you have low-cut ankle socks, and you can get away with it.
The don’ts of white socks
There are some occasions when you absolutely should not be breaking out the white socks.
Any formal situation where you will be sitting is an absolute no-no for white socks. Instead, go for a simple dress sock, or a fun, bold, and funky pair of socks.
It may seem like a no-brainer: Casual shorts, casual shoes, casual white socks. However, this is not the case. Matching a pair of bold, stylish socks with your comfy shoes and your casual shorts will make the attire flow a lot better.
